I believe that the separating of comments from merged could be done a lot better, at the moment they are only marked by the small icon which is pretty much unclear and for a new visitor it is almost impossible to understand that some of the comments are not for the original post. I think that it would be better if comments were separated into two categories (or more if there is more than one merged post): the original post comments and merged posts comments. I will leave a quick sketch below.
