Unified feed for comments and merged posts

When merging posts, include title & desc content as comment

Currently, when you merge a Post X into Post Y, the title and description content that were inside X are effectively deleted/hidden, and only henceforth accessible under a menu/tooltip.

In contrast, I wish we were given the option to retain X’s title / description as a comment on Post Y—just like X’s comments are currently retained as comments in post Y.

While there are certainly “true duplicate” posts out there (which add no value and are just copies of existing requests), more often than not, I’ve found that the “duplicate posts” that I’m wanting to merge are not simple duplicates, but rather elaborations / ideas / variations—i.e., content they’ve put a great deal of thought and effort into, and is worth retaining explicitly / visibly—not hiding behind a tooltip or making me make a pseudo-comment on the post author’s behalf.

In addition, merging without creating a tangible and immediately visible record of Post X feels dismissive. A user may very well feel that their request was distinct (or maybe it was distinct and the admin merging just didn’t recognize that); effectively discarding the original post is not the respectful move, whereas at least retaining their content as a comment (from which further discussion can stem) is.

Note: I see a similar post here:https://feedback.featurebase.app/p/show-merged-post-content-on-parent-post

But that post is marked Completed, citing the creation of the tooltip/dropdown that I mentioned is not sufficient for what I’m looking for. Igor’s comment on this post is aligned with what I’m proposing here:

“What I am suggesting is that merged posts are hidden and it would be great if users can see them immediately.”
