Overview
Roadmaps turn your Requests into a view of planned work. Organize Requests into custom columns or time periods, then share the Roadmap with the right audience.
A Roadmap shows existing Requests, so a change to a Request, such as its status or ETA, can change where it appears.
Common use cases:
Show planned work to customers: Let customers follow what is planned, in progress, and completed
Plan by time period: Group Requests by their ETA or a custom date field
Separate Roadmaps per product or audience: Keep each Roadmap focused on one product area or customer segment
Plan internally with your team: Restrict a Roadmap to your team for plans that are not ready to share
Organize Requests into a Roadmap
Choose a layout
Custom columns: Group Requests by filters, such as their status, category, or labels
Date-based: Show Requests by month, quarter, or half year using their ETA or a custom date field
You can create several Roadmaps for different products, audiences, or planning needs. Creating and editing Roadmaps covers layouts, filters, and columns.
Connect Requests with filters
Roadmaps use filters to decide which Requests appear. The Roadmap's base filters apply to every column, and each custom column can add its own conditions.
For example, a Roadmap can show Requests from one product category, with separate columns for planned, active, and completed work. Updating a Request's status moves it into the matching column.
Note: A Roadmap does not hold Requests of its own. When a Request no longer matches a column's filters, it leaves that column.
Share your Roadmap
Choose an audience
Share a Roadmap with everyone who can access your portal, your team, or selected customer segments. Roadmap privacy controls explains how Roadmap access works with portal, category, and Request visibility.
Important: A Roadmap does not grant access to the Requests inside it. Customers still need access to those Requests through your portal, category, and Request visibility settings.
Share the link and keep it current
Share a Roadmap link or embedded view so customers can follow your plans. Keep Request statuses and dates current as work progresses.
Tip: A Roadmap is the ongoing view of your plans. To bring one change to customers' attention, send a Request status update.
FAQs
Why did a Request disappear from a Roadmap column?
Why did a Request disappear from a Roadmap column?
A column shows the Requests that match the Roadmap's base filters and that column's own filters. When a Request's status, labels, or dates change, it can stop matching one column and appear in another, or leave the Roadmap.
Check the Request's current status and dates, then compare them with the column filters in Creating and editing Roadmaps.
Do customers need access to the Requests inside a Roadmap?
Do customers need access to the Requests inside a Roadmap?
Yes. The Roadmap audience controls who can open the Roadmap. Portal access, category access, and Request visibility decide which Requests each visitor sees inside it, so two people can open the same Roadmap and see different Requests. Roadmap privacy controls explains the access layers.
